Evangelical Jargon (‘Huh?’)

Here’s a favorite in many Baptist churches…

“God told me_________.”

I suspect what this really means is, “I know the Bible says this, but I really, really want to do this instead.”

Listen, if you’re not being conformed by God’s Word, then don’t blame God for you disobedience.

I can’t stand that one and I’ve heard it from the pulpit too. They can’t possibly understand the implications of it when they say “God told me…” or they wouldn’t be doing it.

But you’re right, it generally seems to be something along the lines of “God told be to buy this Mercedes…”

It’s amazing how many people God has revealed his will for my life to.

Rest easy–God didn’t tell me to comment, or to tell you what to do.

God told me that Pilgrim needs to sell his house, move to Africa, and work among the lepers.
